Can My Teeth Really Look Pearly White?

Common question, no?  I mean, seriously - who invented the term, “pearly whites”?  It’s quite judgmental, if you think about it.  Not everyone has perfectly white teeth and this phrase creates a subtle form of pressure that intimidates people about the current colour of their teeth.  Then I realized that brushing my butt off to make my teeth “pearly white” would be useless, since my teeth will always have a natural colour to them - even if they’re totally healthy and I take extremely good care of them, it’ll never look like the colour we see on TV and movies.  To me, that’s perfectly fine.  As long as my teeth are healthy and not overly visually unappealing, I’m good to go.

However, for some people, it’s not good enough.  It’s not good enough for their teeth to be healthy - rather, they need their teeth to LOOK the part by being perfectly white and “made-for-TV”.  So, to respond to this demand, some people have resorted to bleaching their teeth, or teeth whitening.  This isn’t as uncommon as it sounds - people have been bleaching their teeth for a long time and it has been rising in popularity due to the convenience provided by new and innovative teeth whitening products.  Here are a few ways you can whiten your teeth if you desire to do so:

The first and probably the safest approach is through contacting your local cosmetic dentist Toronto and having them actually whiten your teeth for you.  This is extremely safe since your cosmetic dentist is a professional who has gone to school and passed exams to be in his respective industry.  Using a laser-based technique, this procedure is quite safe and assures long-term sustained results that you can actually see.

Another really common approach is called the “over-the-counter” approach where you can purchase teeth whitening products at your local drug store.  This is really common because it’s so convenient.  For only a few bucks, you can have a teeth whitening product at your disposal.  The drawbacks?  It’s not proven to work for the long term.  In other word, the whitening products provide you with a decent result for the near future, but it’s not sustainable to provide the “pearly white” smile that you desire.  However, it’s much cheaper than the “in-office” approach, making it a feasible and efficient choice for the working man/woman.

So, on the whole, whitening your teeth is not a hard thing to do.  Using one of the two options available will provide you with a result that lasts at least for the short-term.  Make sure you consult with your local cosmetic dentist in order to get a good idea of whether this process is right for you or not.  Until then, happy smiling!
